Double Duty Awaits Mason Diaz After Hiatus

After nearly a month off, Mason Diaz is anxious to get back in the cockpit of his racecar and resume his winning ways in races at two North Carolina tracks this weekend.

Diaz will compete at Caraway Speedway on Friday night in hopes of capturing his third career win and his first at the 4/10-mile track in Sophia, North Carolina.  After the race at Caraway, he will head east to compete at Southern National Motorsports Park, where he leads the points and has two wins on the season, in twin Late Model races on Saturday night.

“I’m just ready to be back in a car,” Diaz said.  “The team decided to take the month off to get the cars back to 100 percent.  We raced hard for a few months and a break was needed.  Now it’s time to go back and finish off the season.”

Diaz, who races for Mike Darne Racing, has confidence heading into Caraway.  Earlier this year, his crew chief, Mike Darne, scored a win in a Late Model Stock Car race at Caraway so Diaz knows the car is good enough to compete there.

“Looking forward to racing my first Late Model Stock Car race at Caraway,” Diaz stated.  “My crew chief won the first race there and I know we will have a fast car.  I want to do what he did. It’s not my first-time racing at Caraway but I’ll be in a different car.”

On Saturday, Diaz will head to Southern National Motorsports Park with the points lead having won two of the last four races at the 4/10-mile track in Lucama, North Carolina.

“Going into Southern National, I’m ready to go back to what we were doing before,” Diaz remarked.  “Racing hard, getting wins, and finishing up front to keep the points up.”

So far, the 2017 season has been exactly what Diaz had hoped it would be.  He has been a contender in both a Late Model Stock Car and a Pro Late Model and he has been fast everywhere he has gone.  Now, as the season approaches its halfway point, Diaz is hoping to add more wins are more venues.

“The season has been great,” Diaz explained.  “Everywhere we have gone, we have been a contender. And I’m ready to get some wins everywhere.  And I’ll do whatever it takes to get wins.”
