Mason Diaz heads to Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday riding a wave of momentum after recent victories at Southern National Motorsports Park.
Diaz picked up his second career win last Saturday night in the first of two Late Model duels at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, North Carolina, and kept the momentum rolling with a second-place finish in the second race. The pair of top-two finishes came two weeks after he scored his first career Late Model win at the same track.
“Winning my first race was amazing, and then to repeat it the following weekend is even better,” Diaz said. “Back to back winning is what you need. My next goal is to sweep a weekend at Southern National. But if we keep going out and winning the first race and keep the car in one piece I’m the second race the year will be great. I want to win the championship but if I just go out and do what I’m doing the points will just fall in place.”
Diaz is accomplishing his goal at Southern National Motorsports Park where he leads the points. Now, Diaz is looking ahead to the tough, tricky Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, North Carolina with hopes of picking up his third career win and keep the momentum rolling.
“I’m hoping to take my momentum from Southern National and take it to any track we can,” Diaz remarked. “We are planning to run anywhere that has cars later on in the year. Everywhere we go, the crew puts all their effort in to make the car the best it can be. I know that Mike Darne Racing can put me on the track and I’ll be fast for the race.”
Diaz will be racing at Hickory on Saturday night, April 29th. He competed at Hickory earlier this season, scoring a third-place finish in a race back in March. Another strong performance at Hickory, and other racetracks, will allow Diaz to stay in contention as he continues to chase the Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
